An Introductory Guide to the MunchyMC Forums

Hello and welcome to the MunchyMC Forums! This guide was designed to help you understand the basics of our forums and its software discourse. For further reading on the material, see below.

Table of Contents

Getting started

Welcome to the forums! For anyone interested in becoming an integral member of our community, activity on the MunchyMC forums is essential. Here you have an opportunity to introduce yourself to the rest of the players, to express your opinions in order to shape the development of our servers, to ask questions or to apply for a position to further increase your influence on MunchyMC in a way that suits you best.

To learn the very basics of our forums, you should take a look at the discourse user tutorials. Usually, you get to do this on your first day. Alternatively, you can also send a message to Discobot and follow the instructions. You will earn a fancy certificate and badge if you successfully complete all tutorials!

Rules

If you think a user is not following our rules and purposefully trying to have a negative impact on our community, select the ellipsis icon (the three dots), and then the flag icon. It will then take you to a pop-up with four options. Flagging a post will immediately alert all forum staff members to review the post in question! Flagging is important because it helps keep the forums friendly! There are four types of flags: off-topic, inappropriate, spam, and something else (this is a custom report)!
Please keep in mind that abusing this feature to spam flags or to purposefully take down legitimate posts may get you punished!

Categories and Tags

Our forums currently feature four main categories: Server Information, Server Discussions / Feedback, Applications, and Community. Each Category has its own subcategories which are in turn devided into sections by “tags”. When creating a new post, first select the category you want to post in, then select an appropriate tag.

  • Server Information: Only staff can post in this category. You can find a staff list, recent announcements, the monthly newsletters, and server-wide rules here.
  • Server Discussions / Feedback: If you want to create a guide for the community, discuss an issue or share an idea, post it in the appropriate subsections of this category.
  • Applications: Whenever we actively recruit members for a our teams, you can post an application right here. If there are currently no open positions for the role you are interested in, you will not be able to post in that section. Just check back later!
  • Community: This is by far the biggest category: Introduce yourself, welcome new members, report rule-breakers, ask questions, or have off-topic discussions right here!

Tags were just recently introduced to our forums in 2020 as a means to reorganize them. Hence, they will be explained in more depth so everyone has a chance to adapt to the changes. If you are interested in an overview, you can view a comprehensive list of all forum tags and browse all topics in the respective tags. By clicking on a tag, you can also see which categories it can be used on and you can even enable notifications for a certain tag. For example, you can select the “Watching first post” bell icon in the Newsletter Tag to receive a notification whenever the monthly newsletter is released!

If a list of all topics per tag is too overwhelming or cluttered for you, you can also navigate to a (sub-)category and filter all posts in that category by tags. For example, instead of viewing all accepted (event, build, media, staff) applications, you can search exclusively for accepted staff applications by using the dropdown menu. Or you could look only at ideas for our kitpvp server.
If this still gives you too many results, I recommend using the advanced search feature of our forums to further restrict which posts you want to look at. This will allow you to filter by date, user, popularity, etc.!
