[WoolWars] Map Build Competition

:sparkler:WoolWars Themed New Years Build Competition!:fireworks:

Hello Munchies!

Today is time for another WoolWars competition! This time you will not need your PVP skills, but rather your creativity! This build competition will be about creating a unique map that considers both style, form factor and gameplay!

To make a map with gameplay in mind, it must be “kit neutral”. This means it should not actively favour or disadvantage any individual kit. Obviously this cannot always be done 100%, but the closer you get to kit neutrality, the more enjoyable the gameplay tends to be on that map (take for example community favourite maps such as Colosseum).

Theme
Currently, out of all the maps in the map pool, the majority of them are either circular, or square. This is known as their form factor. There are some exceptions, notably Bunny Day and Honeycomb:

honeycomb
Bunny Day’s form factor is an egg shape, and Honeycomb’s form factor is an octagon.

The theme for this competition will be complex form factors! This means that you cannot build the map in either a circular or square shape. Any other shape is allowed though!

You might decide to build your map in a triangular shape, rectangular shape, or even something crazy like an irregular polygon shape! Go wild!

Submitting Your Map

The deadline for this competition will be Monday 24th January 2022 at 12:00 AM UTC

To submit your map, you need to follow the criteria in Making a WoolWars Map. Here are some specific criteria that is crucial for your map submission to be valid:

  1. The build must be entirely encased in bedrock or barrier blocks (aside from the roof) so players can’t dig their way out of the map.
  2. The roof must be closed off by 5 layers of barrier blocks.
  3. Player podiums must be clearly visible (recommend using carpets).
  4. Map submission should be the zipped world folder uploaded to a reputable site such as Google Drive. Map submissions should NOT be World Edit schematic files.
  5. Multiple images of the map without shaders must be included in the submission.
  6. Submission should be a new post in WoolWars with the tag Map-Submission and should be named NYBC - (Map Name) Map Submission. For example, if I wanted to submit my map that was called “Muffin World”, the map submission post title would be NYBC - Muffin World Map Submission. NYBC stands for New Years Build Competition and will be used to search for all submissions, so omitting this acronym will mean your submission won’t be viewed in the competition.

Failure to follow all these criteria, including everything in Making a WoolWars Map, will mean your map and/or submission is incomplete and thus not valid for the competition.

Remember, use this template in your post:

**Map name**:
**Creator(s)**:
**Map type**: NORMAL/DUEL/TOURNAMENT
**Parkour block**:
**Player podium block**:
**Images**:

IMPORTANT: For those who collaborate on their submission, the cash prize will be split evenly between all collaborators if Buycraft credit is chosen, or given to the project leader if PayPal is chosen. The Wooly tag will only be given to the project leader, not all collaborators on the submission. The project leader is the player who posts the submission to the forums (unless agreed with @BFI01 otherwise). If you are unsure on this, please speak to @BFI01 before starting work on your submission.

Judging

The top 5 submissions will be chosen and ordered in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place. This will be judged by BadBoyHalo and BFI01.

  • Style: This is about how the map looks. It will include uniqueness from other maps, quality and appeal.
  • Form factor: This is not necessarily just about going for a crazy form factor. It is more about how well your map theme and style works together with the form factor (shape) you chose to create a cohesive map.
  • Gameplay: This will consider both of the above categories in how the map looks in terms of actually playing on it. These are factors like: is there easy manoeuvrability around the map, are there good places to fight other players, is there not too much empty space in the map, are there lots of places to go that aren’t similar, is there adequate cover from projectiles in some parts of the map, etc.

Good luck!
