Most modern pvp servers have some sort of “FFA” kitpvp whether they call it kitpvp or not. 1.8 itself is dead and Soup is dead so obviously all of those types of servers arent popular anymore. I personally think thats why Munchy could take advantage of this and create a unique kitpvp for modern pvp by doing anything or everything mentioned in this post, or doing things differently however theyd do it.
either update it or just remove it since its not going anywhere
This is true, but Munchy in general has seen a decline from what it once was. If the owner has interest in changing that I actually think KitPvP and WoolWars would be easier to bring players to via advertising (assuming they were also updated).
Bad streamed pretty much only Gamemaker daily for months when it released and even now spends a lot of his daily streams there, yet it struggles to get to double digit playercounts when he’s not on. Survival/Prison haven’t had direct advertisement recently, but when skill duels released and was advertised by Dream, players only spilled over to WoolWars/KitPvP and other gamemodes didn’t have a noticeable increase.
Assuming the people who’d watch Bad’s videos (if he made those again) are similar to Dream’s viewers (which is likely), that would make WoolWars/KitPvP the only gamemodes they’re interested in, so if he wants to bring players to the server, advertising those would be the most likely to do so.
I remember back in late 2022/early 2023, people were asking about a kit update and responses from admins implied that the manager tried to get updates, but couldn’t get dev power to work on kit. If the manager of the gamemode wanted it to be updated but couldn’t get devs there, my next guess as to who could would be the owner…
So after a couple of weeks of anticipating some sort of admin response, I believe it is safe to say that Munchy has not learned from the past about communication and transparency (I of course am referring to this behemoth; read it over if you haven’t, it’s a banger). After such an uproar, I thought that Munchy was set on the right path, but in reality, has anything actually changed in this regard? We the community only managed to pressure Munchy into making an update to appease the masses, but this kind of behavior does not demonstrate the true synergy that is required for this community to succeed and flourish, which I reflect on and regret.
What’s really needed are excellent, proactive people who are willing to meet us in the middle without fear, not just responding merely in reaction. Now how to achieve that is lost on me. I personally have tried diplomacy in this thread to encourage some good dialogue instead of resorting to my prior nature which was commonly perceived as hostile, but it seems like nothing works for us in terms of receiving some solid answers. I feel like we as a passionate community have tried everything we can to get KitPvP back on its feet, but this passion is not reciprocated by Munchy anymore so what more is there to be done on our end?
So with that said, absent any intervention from Munchy, please let this be the last time we ever talk about reviving KitPvP. KitPvP was a success and we should feel proud for being here to experience it. But man, I wish it would be axed already and released from this years-long torturous limbo of having virtually no players so us passionate players can begin to move forward from it. Either kill it or start working on it again, but just stop tormenting us with the idea that KitPvP can succeed again if you’re not going to make any effort to do so. We can even remove it now and start working on a true rework to be released some time in the distant future, who knows. But here we are with 0 players and nothing being done about it. Many games have been removed for this reason (I made a whole thread about them here, you should take a look if you haven’t, it’s a cool walk through Munchy history). Yet, KitPvP is still left standing after all this time despite the lengthy writing on the wall. It’s funny, it’s almost like someone doesn’t want to let it die…
I honestly don’t think Munchy will last much longer. It seems that the owner only cares about the game modes that he streams. Not to bash him, of course, but the lack of care for the server stems from that and I doubt it will change. Only time can tell.
In the span of 2024 and even maybe months before then, from January to august there was nearly no content. This was not an exaggeration, I specifically remember in February there was the elements map art competition and a prison break tournament I believe it was? Not a big event either way. That means for 8 straight months there was NOTHING new. Thats plenty of time for AN update or competition or anything wouldn’t you say?
We have given them time, they’ve gotten time, it’s not new content that’s the problem it’s management and lack of promotion for existing content in my eyes. I just think the spark for the server has been burnt out of many managers, staff, and players. It certainly seems to have burnt out for myself unfortunately :(.
Maybe thats because in those 8 months you’re talking about, we were programming the resets for both prison and survival, lol… It took me 6 whole months to program s5 and I put so much work into it. It was the biggest season yet (content wise), with over 50 thousand lines of code. The other few months went into planning the reset. Prison also had a big reset that took months to make too. You clearly just know nothing that goes on behind the scenes its very funny.
We all have irl duties, we cant be on a minecraft server 24/7 making updates only for players to be ungrateful for it. To try and bring down the server managers for bringing regular updates with what they’ve got is a joke.
You’re acting quite immature considering you’re saying I don’t know anything behind the scenes but you’re angry that I’m “misinformed”? Maybe that’s why because you don’t share this stuff too publicly I guess or something? I’m quite confused so apologies.
My post isn’t even attacking you or anyone making updates I know it takes time, I’m saying others could’ve done things like competitions, feedback posts, idea posts, little mini events, etc. and nothing seems like it was done?
This entire post is for the feedback of munchy in general and if you wanna improve it then take feedback AND criticism into consideration. Apologies if I have offended you, it was not my intention but please don’t take that tone with me.
Edit:
To those now thinking I maybe am overreacting to the post above, it was edited 2 times when I replied to it with this and now the symbol indicating edits is removed and the wording has been changed yet again. I can confidently swear that on my own life
My issue isn’t that you’re giving feedback. Feedback is important, and no one’s above criticism. What frustrates me is how easily people dismiss the months of work that go on behind the scenes just because it’s not always visible. We don’t need to broadcast every detail; we share what’s necessary and relevant.
You mentioned 8 months of “nothing new,” but that’s simply not true. We were working on major resets that were announced, discussed, and shaped by community feedback. That kind of work takes a lot of time and energy. We also released a few updates in those 8 months too. They might’ve not been big, but at least it was something.
I agree that smaller events or community engagement can help in between updates, but when we’re focused on large scale resets like those, there’s just not always time for that & especially with limited staff and real life responsibilities.
What gets exhausting is seeing this same kind of post pop up again and again and it’s often discussed by people who don’t even play the server anymore and haven’t done so in months or even years.
Also, just to clarify… my original response was directed at your claim that we “didn’t do anything for 8 months,” not the feedback in this post overall. I’m not ignoring criticism, I was correcting a claim that simply wasn’t true.
I’ll exit this forum post because I believe I put enough input and this argument would probably stray away from the main topic, but I never said yall did “nothing” I said there WAS nothing new besides said events I named above. I think you’re misinterpreting some of my words, maybe they’re phrased wrong and sorry on my part of they aren’t clear lol. I know you all worked hard and I remember congratulating you, survival staff, and others specifically about it. S6 or 5 I honestly forgot which is one we’re on has been a very big success in my eyes.
I’m not dismissing your work I’m saying in that period of time there wasn’t anything that entertaining and it felt like people didn’t really care about the server now regarding feedback and criticism, regulate your tone and attitude with people, that tone prior to your edited message was very unprofessional and rude, I get it’s tiring dealing with others but when you get called out for this stuff just apologize and try to learn from the moment.
I ain’t mad at ya or nothing, I think we’re both a little “right” in this and there’s probably some bits from both of our arguments that’s correct and should be focused on, you’ve explained a lot well and I thank you for that because I understand a little more now about this too. So thank you for the insight I don’t believe I will be replying further now publicly and I’ll get out of everyone’s hair now :)
sadly this server isn’t like it used to be. there’s no advertisement to draw in new players consistently given how many admins/owners/managers/developers have youtube channels with 100,000 to 1M+ subscribers. there’s also the idea of paying relatively medium size content creators with enough subscribers that would drive new people to the server but that requires money and an addition expense to the budget. new content comes slower at least prison and survival wise because dev teams consist of 1 or MAYBE 2 people coding an entire complex game mode ground up in most cases. a logical way to solve this is by the server generating enough money to hire more developers so updates can come out more consistently. consistent updates will help retain a higher player count.
as what goes for kitpvp, the gamemode just isn’t popular like it used to be (as fun as it was). i still think that theres ways to create a new pvp gamemode with the style of being able to have the 1.7 swinging and block hitting while being in the current version of minecraft. i think being able to choose between hit delay and no hit delay would be smart. but most mainly pvp servers that are popular aren’t kitpvp anymore. its mostly different variations of factions & prison.
everything on survival has always been 10/10 even though i’ve never played much. always had new updates and new features every season. cool custom cosmetics and everything. seasons just last way to long (another thing that ruins player retention).
on the topic of prison, the game mode has been fun ever since i first started playing it 7 years ago. i think that majority of how the game is played is severely out dated (compared to other servers) from when it was first created and can be balanced and extended content wise in many ways. i think it would be best to steer away from mostly everything in the game being RNG. spending hours looting and making 0 progress is not the best feeling ever :). but i think for more player retention it would be best for shorter maps less items, instead of more items longer maps and advertisement of course!
something controversial that some people wont like is rules. i don’t think it makes sense that there are different rules throughout each different game mode. can be very confusing for new players. imagine being a survival player joining prison for the first time and you see someone in chat tell another person to jump off a building or use the most vulgar language that doesn’t get filtered. i also don’t think rules should be bended just to keep the player count alive even when they broke a clearly stated rule.
overall if changes aren’t made soon this server will die out within the next year or two and the only game mode that will be left open is the event server because someone needs a place to do their precious events every saturday. majority of new servers or existing minecraft servers are just way more advanced, polished, and up to parr with the current state of how servers are made in 2025. unfortunately if munchy can’t keep up it will die out like most servers do.
I agree with this 100%. Both Kitpvp and Prison have always been crazy compared to somewhere like Survival or more recently Game Maker.
Theres been so many times where I’ve seen Prison players join Game Maker and say such stupid stuff that they’d be completely fine saying on Prison, but it just weirds everyone else out and eventually they get warned or muted because it’s just not allowed or tolerated on Game Maker. I think that the rules should be the same on every server and consistently dealt with in terms of punishment.
Although in certain cases in like a Kitpvp or a more competitive game, I can understand allowing some toxicity only because it’s just kinda natural for 2 or more people to start beefing or get upset over losing or something, but that’s about it. Still should be moderated enough to keep things friendly for everyone.
I also think the same should go for here on the forums and in the discord server.
