Economy Rework

The Survival economy has moved away from the old gold ingot loop. Previously, players mined gold ore, smelted it into gold ingots, and deposited those ingots into their balance. Season VI keeps the iconic economy name Gold, but Gold is now a server balance rather than physical gold ingots.

The only regular way to earn Gold outside of rewards is now by selling materials and items to merchants. Deposits and withdrawals are no longer part of the economy flow. This makes resource gathering much more important to the day-to-day economy.

  • Gold is now earned primarily by selling materials to merchants.
  • Gold balances now hold decimal values.
  • Gold ingot depositing and balance withdrawals have been removed.
  • You can now sell items to NPC shops (merchants), not just buy from them.
  • Some merchant prices can change with market activity, falling after trades and recovering over time.

Merchants

Merchants are the new centre of the Survival economy. Merchants buy gathered resources from players for Gold, while fixed-price merchants still sell useful items, workstations, shelves, etc.

  • Added /merchants for ++ Rank players. This opens a quick access menu for merchant shops without having to teleport to each individually.
  • See more detailed information about Merchants and how they work below.

How Merchant Markets Work

Each sellable item to Merchant’s have a base payout, a current market value, and a recovery rate. When lots of players sell the same item, that item’s market value drops. When the item is left alone, the value slowly rises again.

  • New markets start at normal value, which is 100% of the listed base payout.
  • Quiet markets can recover up to 200% of their base payout.
  • No sale can pay less than 0.01 Gold.
  • Selling multiple listed stacks at once lowers the market by that many listed stacks.
  • Player activity is sampled over the last hour. Markets recover at normal speed up to 15 average online players, then scale upward to as much as 1.5x recovery speed around 35 average online players.

Market Speed Types

  • Standard market - falls by 0.12% of base value per listed stack sold, then recovers by 3.00% per hour, up to 4.50% per hour when the server is busy.
  • Fast-drop material market - falls by 1.00% of base value per listed stack sold, then recovers by 3.00% per hour, up to 4.50% per hour when the server is busy.
  • Moderate rare market - falls by 0.25% of base value per listed stack sold, then recovers by 1.00% per hour, up to 1.50% per hour when the server is busy.
  • High-impact rare market - falls by 0.75% of base value per listed stack sold, then recovers by 1.00% per hour, up to 1.50% per hour when the server is busy.
  • Slow rare market - falls by 1.00% of base value per listed stack sold, then recovers by 0.20% per hour, up to 0.30% per hour when the server is busy.

Material Market Merchants

The following merchants buy resources from players. The amount before each item is the listed stack size for one market sale, and the Gold amount is the base payout before market movement.

Greenhouses

We have implemented a new claim type called the Greenhouse. It isn’t a traditional claim where it would be used to protect an area. It is an area you choose inside your claim to place a blueprint.

Blueprint’s require a flat surface of natural blocks and must be within the bounds of a main claim in order to be placed. Once placed, you will be able to visualize how your blueprint will look once built and blocks in the way of the blueprint will be highlighted red to let you know to break them. Once your blueprint has been confirmed and has enough space, it will gradually build over the span of a few minutes.

Once built, you will be met by Ivy, the Greenhouse Keeper NPC. She will introduce you to how the greenhouse works by guiding you through each section.

You can buy the Greenhouse Blueprint from the new Builder NPC Shop for Gold but also requires you to have the Farmer Skill class unlocked.

What is the Greenhouse?

Greenhouses are a way to farm new crops such as Tomatoes, Lettuce, Chili Peppers, Strawberries, Lavender and Blueberries. But, it isn’t as simple as tilling farmland and placing the seeds. Your crop requires multiple steps first before being grown by using your workstations.

Workstations

Composter Workstation: Each Greenhouse has two composters. You can fill these composters with plant matter gained from harvesting crops. Each type of plant matter will provide different amounts of richness and nutrients. Richness determines what type of compost you will be given and nutrients determines how quickly your composter will fill. Once you fill your composter to the top, the composting process will begin and you will soon be able to claim one of three types of compost.

Basic Compost: This is the lowest tier of compost and provides no extra attributes to your crops. It has a fertility level of 3, meaning only three crops can be grown on it before it dries out again.

Rich Compost: The mid tier compost. It provides +10 bonus produce and +10 bonus plant matter when you harvest crops grown on it. It has a fertility level of 6.

Pristine Compost: The highest tier of compost. It provides +20 bonus produce and +20 bonus plant matter when you harvest crops grown on it. It has a fertility level of 12.

Water Cauldron Workstation: Each compost requires water first before being able to plant a crop on it. Your water cauldron can hold three levels of water. You add water by simply clicking with water buckets.

You then obtain a watering can and you can then fill the watering can with water. Once you have filled your watering can, you may then go over to your newly placed compost and hydrate it.

Water inside your Water Cauldron can be enhanced using refined materials. You find these refined materials from an upgrade in your refinery. More on that below.

Refined Materials

  • Refined Bone Meal: Crops grow 20% faster
  • Refined Glowstone: +30 plant matter
  • Refined Honeycomb: +30 crop produce

Refinery Workstation
Once your crop has grown, you will be able to accumulate vast amounts of produce. You will then be able to sell this produce at the Farming Merchant for a high price OR.. you could refine them into something a bit more special.

Your Refinery will allow you to enter a set amount of produce and some coal as fuel and will refine your produce into Special Produce. Special Produce can be sold at the Farming Merchant for high prices.

Your refinery has five upgrade types:

  • Produce Capacity: Increases how much produce can be stored in the refinery. (max lvl 5)
  • Fuel Capacity: Increases how much coal fuel can be stored in the refinery. (max lvl 5)
  • Time Saver: Reduces the time needed to refine special produce. (max lvl 5)
  • Bonus Fuel: Adds a chance to recover coal when special produce is refined. (max lvl 5)
  • Water Ingredients: Adds a chance to receive refined materials used in the water cauldron when you refine special produce. (max lvl 5)

Ivy, the Greenhouse Keeper NPC

Your greenhouse has a level that unlocks more crop types & greenhouse shop items when you level up. You gain 1 Greenhouse XP for each crop you harvest. You can view your level by clicking Ivy.

Greenhouse Shop
The greenhouse shop offers various amounts of items that will help you maximize the efficiency of your greenhouse. These include farming hoes, upgraded watering cans, special armor, and a lot more. You can also buy seeds from this shop in order to generate more income.

Greenhouse Properties
You are able to change your greenhouse name from the Ivy NPC. You can also change your greenhouse skin to give it a new look. These skins are fully cosmetic and can only be obtained from Cosmetic Bundles obtained through the Ruby Shop.

You will also be able to delete your greenhouse, though this will delete all progress you make and the building will be destroyed. Be careful!

I am really skeptical about the whole economy change but I guess we will have to see. Besides, other changes are pretty fun!

I was also hoping to see changes in the way you grind Skills or some Classes being tweaked.

Will this be pushed in before season 6?

Yeah, the economy changes are a big one. My idea is that it will bring in more opportunities for content that survival currently lacks. Having to build multiple different types of farms, exploring new paths instead of just mining gold, etc.

Skills will be tweaked in the next few months when I get some free time. I didn’t have enough time to add all the changes I wanted.

Trophy cabinet may be added to S5 but I still have quite a bit of things to do so there is a chance I will just add a command in S6 to give everyone their trophies back.

The dynamic merchant prices are probably my favorite part of this new season. It should stop everyone from farming the exact same item nonstop and actually make them pay attention to what is worth selling at the time.

Also loving the progression system with the greenhouse. It makes every new gadget or item more gameplay specific and future updates are endless.

Huge shoutout to Ross and everyone else who put their efforts on all this!!! can’t wait for SEASON 6!!!

Hey guys, some additional changes have been implemented since we had the Beta Session.

Proximity Voice Chat

This is a huge change coming to the new season. We will be implementing the ability for users to use proximity voice chat. This will require you to install the Simple Voice Chat Mod. (Please be careful to install the correct mod)

Note that this feature will be in a trial phase to see how players will use the mod. For for the first two weeks, the mod will be limited to users who have Super and above or + and above. Unranked players may still use the mod to listen to other players but will be unable to speak.

There is also some limitations we have implemented with this feature:

  • To use the voice chat, you must accept our terms
  • Group chats are disabled
  • Your account must be at least 10 days old
  • You cannot use voice chat in busy areas like spawn

Players may also limit who can speak using voice chat in their claims by changing the voice chat flag. Note that normal players and staff will still be able to hear you.

Please read our terms upon release so that you get a full understanding of how the system works and for a better understanding of how staff will moderate.

Greenhouse Changes

Added Greenhouse Expansions: Allows you to purchase expansions for your greenhouse after unlocking a certain level. The only available expansion right now is the storage expansion which gives you access to 8 chests but more will be added in future updates.

Added an extra composter to the greenhouse: After multiple players simulated play throughs of the greenhouse loop, we noticed that it’s quite annoying only having two composters so we added a third which is locked behind greenhouse level 5.

Added the Greenhouse Crate: We have implemented a new type of crate that you can purchase for Rubies. This crate will reward a few helpful items and global boosters that make levelling up your greenhouse less tedious.

Merchant Changes

Gold Ingots no longer have dynamic sell values: You can now sell gold to Brakk (Mineral Merchant) for 1 gold per gold ingot.

Other Changes

Removed ++ flight hunger: We have decided to completely remove the flight hunger nerf. The recent tweaks to reduce how much hunger was taken just simply wasn’t enough and it made using flight feel like a punishment.

Sell all changes: Unranked players can now sell all items to NPC shops at once but only + and Elite players can sell all items from their shulker boxes and sacks (a new item).

Ruby Shop Gifting: Players can now gift their friends items from the Ruby Shop.

Claim Block Refunds: Upon deleting a main claim, you now earn back 50% of claim blocks. For users with the builder skill class unlocked, you will earn 75% of claim blocks back.
