[Survival] Quests Idea

Hey everyone!

I have been working on a Quest System for Survival for a while now, and before it goes any further, I would genuinely love to hear what the community thinks.

Quests have gone missing since season 5 and might not make a comeback, unless someone works on it. This is not something completely new, but updated with more objectives and more quests variety.

This would not be about forcing people into grinding quests every day. The idea is simply to give players more goals to work toward while playing normally.

PS: don’t mind the texture pack…

Quick overview

The system currently has four quest types:

• Storyline Quests
• Daily Quests
• Community Quests
• Seasonal Quests

Storyline Quests

Storyline Quests are personal quests that you can complete at your own pace.

They would follow a branching path, have Iron, Diamond, and Emerald tiers, and eventually lead to different endings and rewards. The aim is to give players longer-term goals beyond simply completing a few quick tasks.

There will be 9 different endings, so 9 endings book to find.

This time, activating their chronicle will provide a random potion effect, related to the progression of the storyline.

The effect stays for 10 minutes. Chronicles (ending books) are stackable.

Daily Quests

Daily Quests are shorter rotating objectives, with one quest from each tier.

They can involve much more than mining and killing mobs: fishing, brewing, enchanting, archaeology, trading, farming, armor trims, Netherite upgrades, and more.

Each daily quest can be refreshed once per day.

There is also a streak system, but it would include Streak Freezes so missing a day would not instantly ruin a long streak.

Community Quests

Community Quests are server-wide objectives where everyone can contribute toward the same goal.

For example, players could collectively mine resources, defeat mobs, fish, trade, or complete another shared objective. Your own contribution would still matter for reward eligibility.

There would be one community quest every week lasting the whole week-end.

The idea is to encourage players to work toward something together without making it competitive.

Seasonal Quests

Each season would have a shared board of 28 quests.

Everyone would receive the same board for that season, but the quests on the board would be selected from a larger pool—so when the season returns later in the year, it would not necessarily be identical.

Each completed quest gives its own tier reward, and completing the entire board gives an exclusive seasonal reward.

One new command to cover

Quest Assist would let players help a friend progress their Storyline or Seasonal Quests.

A player could send a request with:

/quests assist <player> <storyline|seasonal>

The other player can then accept or decline it. Once accepted, the helper’s relevant progress contributes to the quest owner at 50% efficiency.

For example, if a Storyline Quest requires collecting 10 logs:

  • The quest owner collecting 1 log contributes 1 log.

  • Their helper collecting 1 log contributes 0.5 logs.

This means friends can genuinely help each other, while the quest owner still has a reason to participate themselves.

Quest Assist would only work for Storyline and Seasonal Quests:

  • Daily Quests are intended to remain personal, quick objectives.

  • Community Quests already allow the entire server to contribute.

While assisting, the helper can see who they are helping through /quests, including the relevant Storyline Quest or Seasonal board. Rewards remain reserved for the quest or board owner.

Only one Quest Assist can be active at a time, and either player can stop it whenever they want with:

/quests assist stop

Additional explanations

All quest content would be accessible through one command: /quests.

That and/or having an NPC for it.

This opens a single menu where players can view their Storyline, Daily, Community, and Seasonal Quests. Although there are four categories, they are all part of the same Quest System—not four completely separate systems.

The main difference is how their rewards work:

  • Storyline Quests give normal tier rewards, while completing a storyline ending grants a Chronicle with its own useful effect.

  • Daily Quests give normal quest rewards, but building a long streak can unlock larger Weekly, Monthly, and Seasonal streak rewards.

  • Community Quests can offer larger or more unique rewards, since the whole server contributes toward one objective. A player’s personal contribution would still matter for reward eligibility.

  • Seasonal Quests give rewards for individual completed quests, but completing the full 28-quest board can give an exclusive seasonal reward. During seasonal events, this could potentially include event currencies or seasonal crates.

The exact rewards are not final yet, but the goal is for every quest category to feel worthwhile for a different reason.

I would like to mention that some gadgets would come along with those quests. Made a few.

What I would like feedback on

Please be honest—positive or negative feedback is both useful.

Would you actually want a system like this on Survival?

Which quest type sounds most interesting to you?
  • Storyline
  • Daily
  • Seasonal
  • Community
  • All of the above
  • None of the above

  • Does anything sound too grindy, confusing, or unnecessary?

  • What rewards would feel worthwhile without being overpowered?

  • Would you prefer more relaxed quests, harder long-term goals, or a mix of both?

  • Are there any quest ideas or objectives you would personally like to see?

I have put a lot of work into making the system flexible, but the most important part is whether it would be enjoyable for the people actually playing Survival.

Thank you for reading, and I would really appreciate any thoughts!

Yay! This is an awesome idea, and it would be something I would be excited to see on Survival! :D

Everything sounds great besides the assist feature. To be honest, I miss taking on quests. I’m currently stuck just farming gold, which is becoming really repetitive.

I like this, daily and community are my two favorites though because I feel like storyline might just get too repetitive very quickly since it has limited endings

Could js depend how long they are though

This looks great, a feature like this would add a ton to the server

In terms of community quests, I think they could be used to tease new updates and/or allow the community to “unlock” new updates. There could be a month-long tiered quest that has players contributing to unlock hints about an upcoming update or something along those lines, and for longer quests, there could be a daily limit to the amount you can contribute to prevent it from being completed too quickly and to incentivize players to log on more often.

Honestly, it’s good to see people excited to bring back an old cherished feature to a newer season of Survival.

I, for one, am more than excited for any opportunities that incentivise players to play daily and grind as a community, as alternatives to the debatably tedious/repetitive daily grind of gold and/or skills xp. Adding more content as long as it’s clear and intuitive allows branching of playstyles and I think you’ve certainly nailed that aspect, and I’m sure others can agree that re-adding quests to S6 would be more than beneficial to the majority of the player base.

However, I do think this has the potential to overwhelm a newer player; especially one who hasn’t had any experience with any of Survival’s custom content like the different quest lines. Don’t get me wrong; adding tons more custom content to give players alternative goals both on a daily and seasonal scale is probably a healthy and welcomed change, but managing a consistent flow of balance is crucial to ensuring a smooth experience for less acquainted players.

That being said, I have no doubt that you and the other survival staff are more than capable of ensuring a re-addition of the questline mechanics that is fun and engaging for the majority of players.

Looking forward to seeing this idea grow!
+1 for sure

I’d be super excited to see quests return \o/ And I love the assist feature that’s very cute.

I don’t know what rewards would make it worthwhile to do daily quests. Gold feels like too simple an answer. Skill and bazaar exp would be nice but those obviously have their own ‘quests’ in a way. Working up to earning rubies or cosmetics would be great. Most of the things on Munchy feel pretty worthwhile to do so I’m sure the team will come up with more worthwhile rewards. To be honest just having an extra reason to mindlessly grind resources and feel productive about it is almost reward in itself.

Are you hoping to bring back the custom boss fights in the storyline quests as well?

Bringing back custom bosses is my next objective though I have no knowledge of 3D stuff…

I’ll see what I can do about that though :innocent:

Custom bosses would be very cool for a next step :D Even if you just recycle the current ones that would probably be fine. I’m guessing most survival players don’t get to experience the current bosses anyway since I see the same groups of people beating them so fast
