For reference, Season 2 had no fortune, 100% double drop, and 50% double smelt.

I kinda wanna say it would be hard to make things equal, mostly if we are only comparing mining and gold farms without involving shops.
The amount of effort put in those 2 way to make gold is huge, I acknowledge that gold farms also requires grind but where you get more gold overtime, you see it coming like after getting all your levels to make your farm as profitable as possible you basically have to salvage. And I don’t think mining for 8 hours would make as many gold as salvaging for 8 hours straight.

I’ll weigh in with my personal thoughts — meaning this is about how I like to play the game. I didn’t vote on nerfing or buffing gold methods to be equal, since I assume that this would include selling items, running casinos, and offering building or redstone services in exchange for gold.

PERSONALLY I enjoy mining and I find it relaxing. As I’ve said before, I would very much like it if mining could offer me amounts of gold that are comparable to, for instance, running a casino, which I would not enjoy. The one day when fortune worked on gold ore was a lot of fun, since you never know how much gold one ore will drop. The possibility that you will get, say, three raw gold from one ore sometimes is motivating while mining. So I’d love it if that came back.

If it did, I think other buffing methods like double drop and double smelt would become obsolete, and make gold mining too OP. This would also allow less frequent miners, with lower mining levels but good picks, to get more enjoyment from mining.

I don’t use skeleton gold farms and have no thoughts on that. Basically I don’t really enjoy having a shop but I do enjoy mining. Even with the current situation, this allows me to gather enough gold to buy the few items I want to buy rather than gather, like crate items or nether stars. But if fortune affected gold, it would make mining more fun.

Mining is going to be my main or even only way to get gold no matter to what point it may be nerfed, by the way, but it is sure nice to get more from it.

Like RiderofStriders said, I’d love for fortune to come back, with double smelt and double drop being as nerfed as they are rn. I don’t really like mining much, but I really enjoy it when I actually get some gold from it. Yes, I love owning a shop, but I’m not even sure if I can profit from it, since I spend 100g on it every week. I’m very bad with keeping track of money and therefore running a business in MC so I can’t really get gold that way. Nor do I want to get gold that way. (I do still want to earn a shop, I just don’t want it to be my main gold source, I really only own a shop for fun, not for profit) Like Rider said, I had so much fun when it was fortune. I genuinely believed that was the plan the whole time, nerf double smelt/drop so fortune could be added later. I was disappointed to find out it was only a bug, not intended. I think it’s just not that nice that you can get more money through business stuff, which some players suck at, rather than mining. Every good way to make money through mining seems to get nerfed, which is very sad.

I would like to see mining buffed maybe a little, but not to the extent some people are suggesting, else we’ll just get a repeat of season 2 where the economy got super inflated, except it would happen earlier on this season due to the much larger playerbase and alot more technical people.

On the topic of gold farms, I would like to see them nerfed a little. Even with the drop from hard to normal difficulty, they’re still pretty op, and I’m just more comfortable with people properly earning their gold manually rather than afking for large portions of time. That’s not to say gold farms don’t take alot of work and effort to create, just that it’s perhaps too powerful for a somewhat passive income method.

To clarify, when talking about “all gold methods being equal” specifically I’m referring to gold farms or mining

Ah, I see.

I have no experience with gold farms at all, but it would seem logical to me if the yield potential was similar in both cases for equal amounts of time spent getting gold.

Nerf gold farms. Gold farms are afk-able, unlike mining & shopkeeping.

I’m not very involved with the eco, but I think mining should be buffed to somewhat reward the amount of time it can take. It would be a LOT more motivating if gold mining had a better gold yield or gold farms produced less, as for me I find it demotivating to go mining when I know there’s really no point due to gold farms producing much more in the time ill spend mining.

To be fair, the more the server buffs or nerfs gold, it fails to recognize inflation, and is purely ignoring it and making practically all methods incapable of happening by removing vanilla features.

In my opinion, I’d really like if Munchy pretty much left everything alone with obtaining gold, but everybody has to ruin it by finding methods of obtaining large amounts of gold. I don’t like double drops, nor do I like double smelt. But people have grown to like it, to the degree people earn from buying gold ore. I like the direction of how people want Fortune on gold, but I don’t quite agree with Double Smelt or Drops. The more Munchy strays from being vanilla, makes me less inclined to play Munchy Survival.

I know other people have other opinions than me, and that’s fine. I thought I should just shove my opinion out there. I’m fine with double smelt, but it isn’t something I appreciate in my separate opinion. I don’t really mind what Munchy does with how it treats Gold Ore, but it is some food for thought.
