Players aren’t forced to use a 3rd party program. It’s as easy as just messaging a staff member to get your idea through, or any other well known member who would be happy to forward it to staff !
This is just unnecessary. There are plenty of ways to let your voice be heard. This is not fixing a problem, simply making it “more convenient”. (Which ironically introduces a plethora of new potential problems and complications.) It is simply replacing staff’s roles with a popularity contest.
(Let’s face it, even if the whole of survival were to comply with this, we are not staff. We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes and we won’t know how fit somebody is for an important role. Players will just vote for their friends or the people they recognize the most.)
Also, how would this be advertised for players without using the forums/discord? How would you organize voting for members without the use of it? Players who do not have access to it would not know that this council exists, and will not be able to vote, leaving the decision only up to those who already have access to the 3rd party sites. + Spamming the chat will quite frankly just get annoying.
I think the way survival works currently is perfectly fine. No need to complicate things.
Also:
In what was is monopolizing baltop not hindering the experience of other players? Some people are going for baltop, y’know. Seems a little discouraging.
If I am completely misunderstanding then I apologize, I just do not see the need for this.

As stated above, there are already complications involved when forwarding ideas and concerns to staff directly. Feel free to look through all the replies to this forum for them. Also, you explaining how people not having discord and access to forums would find difficulty in voting just further demonstrates the actual need for a “council” of sorts. There are different electoral process methods such as mass meetings, electoral events, and anonymous ballots. There is so much more an individual can do in the Minecraft client especially if they’re too young or simply don’t have access, for whatever reason, to these 3rd party clients. To also add to what you said, yes, we are not staff, and neither will the council. It is merely a way for the community to COME TOGETHER and represent their concerns and ideas as a united and unified group. We need to have a group that can be held accountable for their decisions, the opportunity to have influence over the decisions that affect their experiences REGARDLESS of any application process or requirements, and can demonstrate the needs of the general public of survival to get points across that wouldn’t necessarily be acknowledged or recognized otherwise. Why should the general community and the players be heavily impacted by the consequences that come from decisions made entirely under Staffs discretion? Shouldn’t the players experiences far outweigh the “hindsight” perspective of authoritative positions? Having a group directly represent the public allows the community to express how they wish to participate in decisions that affect and influence the future of Survival, as well as express how different decisions will either negatively or positively affect their experiences as individuals and as a community as a whole.
Also, monopolizing baltop would not necessarily hinder the experience of other players. It would merely create innovative opportunities for a continuously expansive level of economic progression, and give players the ability to use skills, knowledge, and opportunities to demonstrate their drive to achieve a spot on Baltop. Using the Original Council of Ten as an excuse to stop working towards that achievement only demonstrates the lack of effort they were willing to put into that goal in the first place as the Council would have no powers or abilities to dictate how the economy should/will work.
To summarize, like stated before, the “Council” is merely an additional method rather than a replacement, that allows the community to have meaningful input and demonstrate their perspectives as a group rather than as individuals.
Hopefully this clears it up for you a bit, if you have anything else to add I’d love to see what you think <3
Again, maybe I missed it, but I just wanted to make one thing sure.
The “council” you are proposing will not have any actual power over the players, right? It will just be a figurehead to discuss ideas and help players fix stuff?

Yes that is exactly right. They forward ideas and concerns directly to staff, and staff obviously can accept or veto them but hopefully they will at least be acknowledged as it will be ideas and concerns that will represent the perspective of the general Survival Community as a whole rather than the personal perspective of each individual player.
