Cocoa has 2 stages of growth and yields 2 profit. (+1 for replant)
Nether Wart has 3 stages of growth and yields 0-2 profit. (+1 for replant)
Sugar Cane has maybe 15 growth stages, idk, it has age as a block value but it doesn’t make much sense. It gives 2 Profit.
Cocoa can fit in as much space as wheat needs without loss to water, but is at a loss at the ends, adding 1 more layer of block height, it gives +50% to cocoa, which wheat can’t get.
Max is 5 blocks high farm, which is also superior to wheat, again, because it’s at 250% crop profit, but harvesting and replanting is very tiring.
5 Blocks are almost like 6 Blocks, a 2 layer farm of wheat, where as the farm would be at 200% crop profit, so Cocoa is still more profitable.
In a Cocoa layout of 5 blocks farm, 1 block floor, 2 blocks farm, Cocoa can fit 350% crop profit.
With an unusual harvesting method, the floor can be removed and become part of the cocoa farm, so it yields 400%, but replanting will be even more exhausting, because you can fall between the cocoa in their early stages.
The farm is 28x19 big, 532 block².
532 - 8 water sorces = 524 per layer for Wheat.
532 / 3 * 2 = 354.667 = 354 * 5 = 1062
Wheat has 1048 profit on 2 layers, while Coca has 2124 profit in as much space as Wheat.
This weeks prices: Wheat 1100, Cocoa 410.
Wheat yields 1.152.800 and Cocoa 870.840.
Since Wheat takes 3 times longer to grow (7 growth stages), Cocoa (2 growth stages) can be harvested every hour with a little loss of maybe 10 crops, while Wheat can only be harvested every 3 hours.
Cocoa indeed is superior to Wheat.
(In 1.14, the axe is superior to the sword, because it can disable the ability to block with the shield for 5 seconds)

Cocoa grows faster, while Wheat earns you more per item. I recommend going for a Cocoa farm if you have time to harvest your farm every hour or so. Otherwise wheat will be a solid choice.
